EPIPHONE INSPIRATION STYLE A TENOR. This is a rare bird.
Highly modified in the 40s sometime. I acquired from the family of a traveling Musician named Pat Patraw and his Oklahoma Cowboys. I believe he played and traveled around Ohio and Pennsylvania area back in the 40's.This was originally a 1925-29 or so wooden topped Tenor banjo, frets from bridge to nut measure approx. This banjo is very playable, and unique. The action and neck are good. A hole was cut in the back to install the electronics, and a resonator/cover is affixed with on screw on the inside back of the Resonator is a little envelope still holding a sweet hearts picture. Her name appears to have been Margaret Trudich..
Which there are some obituaries from Ohio/Pa area on line that mention a woman of that name. This is a very rare piece of Americana folk history. I will try to answer any questions. Youtube videos for better details search. 1920s Epiphone Inspiration rare folk instrument.
This is information I found from an original post on the web site. What makes this guitar special : An ultra rare Epiphone tenor made for only a very short time in the late'20s. This super cool vintage guitar has a banjo resonator style body with round soundhole. Solid spruce top with walnut back & sides and a gorgeous, ornate headstock overlay. Light-weight with warm, rich tones & a beautiful resonance.
Neck : Mahogany neck with nicely aged ivoroid binding & black side-dots. Rosewood fingerboard with pearloid dot inlays. Original frets show some light wear, but have plenty of life in them. Ornate pearloid headstock overlay with Epiphone & Inspiration banner logos, floral motif with the'A' marking.Grover Pat Pend banjo tuners are in good working condition. 1 1/8" nut width; 23" scale length. Body : Round, banjo-style body, Solid spruce top with 3-ply black/white/black binding.
Nickel tailpiece with ebony bridge. Unoriginal tortoise pickguard & 3-ply rosette.
Walnut back & sides also with 3-ply binding. 13 3/4" diameter body with 3 1/4" depth. Guitar weighs 2 lbs 13.5 oz.
